How we’ve helped
Onto Apprenticeship
Steven won’t mind us saying he had a challenging relationship with education and life further afield. ‘Turning it around’ is an often-used cliché but he’s living proof it can be done. Over the time he spent with New Roots he developed a clear purpose, instead of looking backward, he started looking forwards and developed some clear goals.
At the end of his time with New Roots, Vistry secured him 3 days work experience with Davis and Barret bricklayers, from this he has secured an apprenticeship starting September 2025. He has done himself proud!
Onto Further Education
At first a very quiet young man, lacking in confidence and not sure at to what direction he wanted to take.
Working closely with New Roots staff and his wider peer group his demeanour changed, his confidence in communicating grew, as his skill set improved so did his ability to learn. He gathered pace over the year he spent with us and has evolved into a very capable and resilient young man. He’s has now secured a place at the Exeter College Construction Centre!
Into Employment
Tyler spent an academic year with us, showing clear potential from day one. He didn’t enjoy a conventional journey through education but was clearly a very practical young man. From the very outset he proved a very intuitive learner who picked up skills fast.
We guided him through the CSCS card qualification, with this and the skills he’d learnt with us he went on to secure successful employment with a local builder and is thriving.
